DESIREE Laboratory safety

Some experimental activities at the DESIREE Infrastructure implies certain risks. In order to mitigate—if not entirely eliminate—any risks we have set up some procedures to follow. We here give the information needed for a user proposing an experiment related to these matters.

The safety considerations are made in two steps. First shortly after each proposal submission deadline, the safety officer of the Stockholm University Physics Department reads all proposals to identify any evidently unacceptable risks. If no such risks are found, the proposed experiment is preliminarily approved from the safety perspective. If the proposed experiment is granted beam time, it will be the responsibility of the local contact person (for local PIs, the PIs themselves) to contact the safety officer for for the second step, an assessment of whether a risk analysis is necessary. In the link below, the process is described. As a PI planning to submit an application, we recommend that you read this material and in the event that your experiment involves CMR marked materials consider if you could choose a different alternative. We understand that this is not always possible and we are not trying to discourage interesting experiment proposals, but by increased awareness, we may be able to eliminate unnecessary risks.
